Giving Back To Employees: 3 Things To Be Aware Of
Giving back to your employees is the best way to thank them for the effort they put into the job. What you’ve achieved wouldn’t have been anywhere near as easy without them, and recognizing this is part of creating a healthy workplace culture.
But in wanting to give back, it’s easy to go over budget or try to achieve something complicated. As such, be aware of the three things below; make sure your employees feel appreciated, but be careful when it comes to these potential issues.
Unsung Heroes
If you’re not working alongside your employees at every moment, there’s every chance you’re missing out on who is really doing the work and giving it their all. There’s a lot of people who can be quiet in the workplace – who do their best to get on and deliver – and sometimes these people are the unsung heroes keeping the whole place running.
Make sure you take this into account when you give back to your team. Be aware of just how many of them may be doing unseen work that’s accelerating project completion times or scoring new leads that pay back massively. Some people may even clock in early on a regular basis, and if that never goes appreciated, it could become a sore spot.
How Your Insurance Really Works
Most workplaces will offer insurance as part of their employee benefits package, but many workplaces are unaware of how this insurance really works. Health insurance tends to be the most common kind, which allows your team members to access affordable healthcare as and when they need to.
However, as the employer, it’s important to read your health insurance policy carefully. You need to know how it really works, what it covers, and where you may be liable to pay out even with this coverage in place.
Indeed, many employees will need access to such insurance in order to access long term medications, but if you’re unsure if the policy offers medical vs pharmacy benefit, this may not be fully covered or even possible via the benefits you have in place. Double checking the wording of your policy agreement is essential before you promise anything!
What’s Going on Behind the Scenes
Giving back is a good thing for a boss to do when an employee puts in 110%. However, we only get to see what people are like when they are at work. That means an entire side of life is cut out of the equation, and that can make giving back unfair, in an ultimately harsh yet accidental way.
Because someone who is apparently not putting enough effort in may have more than enough justifiable reasons for letting their performance slip. Penalizing them at a time like this, or refusing to recognize their hard work alongside everyone else’s, could push them into giving up on the job altogether. That’s not what you want here.
Give back to your employees in the right way by mitigating the risks above.
