When to Renovate Your Office Space

Your office space is more than just where your employees happen to work. It does facilitate work, yes, but it also represents your company. You need to make sure that your offices are clean, safe, comfortable, and up to date. Unfortunately, renovating an office space takes a measure of investment.

If you’re constantly making huge changes to your office, you might not have time to ever actually get any work done. But if you never update anything, it’s going to look shabby and, even worse, it might not be safe or fit for purpose. So how can you know when to renovate your office space, and what changes should you prioritize to make the most significant improvements?

Regular Renovations

The trick is to find a good middle ground between changing things too often and not often enough. Unfortunately, there’s not a “one size fits all” approach to this, every company is different, and different industries might require more or less regular changes.

However, it’s a good idea to do checks of the office fairly regularly. You want to keep it maintained anyway, but it’s worth identifying any problem areas. If you’re constantly having to fix the plumbing system, for example, it might be a good idea to replace it entirely.

Sometimes, when it comes to renovations, it might mean that for an extended period of time, the office can’t be used, and a lot of business owners don’t seem to realize that is basically a reality. So, in that case, it might be a good idea to look into commercial movers to temporarily put your belongings into a storage facility while the renovations go on.

On top of these changes that come out of need, you might also want to update things and change the style periodically. Updates might mean replacing old equipment with new, more capable equipment. Style and branding changes might involve making your company seem more modern. For example, glass stairs and treads can instantly modernise an older building and help you increase light and flow throughout the space while still delivering functionality and safety too.

If you space some renovations out, they might be less disruptive. But if you need to make significant changes, make sure that your employees and your customers know when you’ll be out of the office.

Changing the Layout

Minor renovations, such as changing the paint job or switching the layout up a bit might take a day or a weekend, but more significant changes should take longer.

While moving furniture might change the layout quickly, changing the rooms is a much more significant change that might take weeks to complete. So, always work out whether the increased productivity is worth the time it takes to make the change.

This might also involve getting materials such as PVC wall & ceiling panels so that you can add more rooms or repair any damages that might happen during these more significant changes.

Updating Equipment

Another important renovation might be to update equipment. As a general rule, laptops can last a few years before they need to be replaced. Five years is about the maximum amount of time you can get out of a laptop before it starts to slow down. But if things do go wrong before then, you should look into upgrading your equipment.

As well as general wear and tear slowing your computers down, technology marches on. You will find that you get better performance out of newer machines. With this in mind, you can make significant savings by purchasing equipment and computers that are a model or two out of date, without much of a sacrifice to performance.
