Running your own blog gives you a place to share your opinion, to grow a readership & fan base and make a change to other people’s lives. Your blog can be on anything you are passionate about; it could be on fitness, business, marketing, or a lifestyle blog – the possibilities are endless. Our biggest tip would be to write about something you are passionate about; this way, you are more likely to keep up with it and enjoy writing.

When starting, there are a few things to think about. The name, having a website created, creating a content calendar, signing up to social media channels and more. To help you, we have put together a brief guide below.

Thinking of a name for your blog

The first (and arguably most important) thing you need for your blog is a name. Without this, you don’t have anything to base the whole look and feel of the site around, let alone be able to start things like your social media accounts and logo design. It can be tricky coming up with a good name, which is why a name generator can be a great idea. You can use this to come up with ideas and find the one you like best. Just be sure it’s not something that is being used already or that has a trademark against it.

Creating a content calendar for your blog

When it comes to your blog, you need to post consistently. Without this, people won’t know when to expect new posts and your viewers might drop. One of the easiest ways to keep on track of the content that is going out and due to go out in the future, is with a content calendar. With this, you can keep track of upcoming articles, ensure you have topical items going out at the right time and know there won’t be a lull with your articles.

Having a website created for your blog

Last but not least, you need to consider the actual website itself. It’s easier than ever to create a website nowadays, whether you have someone do it for you, or if you choose a generator such as Wix to do it for you. Make sure your theme aligns with your site and that it’s easy enough for you to update and do yourself. Don’t forget aspects like the SEO and metadata to get your blog to rank on search engines too.
